MTV’s new comedy series THE HARD TIMES OF RJ BERGER is underway, in which a diminutive geek is revealed to have the biggest schlong in school and hence becomes a sex symbol, and heaven knows we’ve all been there. To celebrate, we’ve teamed up with MTV to bring you an RJ BERGER night, complete with screenings of the show, an RJ dresing up box and plenty of give-aways, so get down early! Also, the last surfing week of the year brings you the immense CHANNEL CAIRO going dweeb for your delectation. alongside the gorgeous new wave punk pop of RAMONA. Plus internet spoof-pop sensations THE MIDNIGHT BEAST spin some tunes!

Big news – holiday season is over… all five of us are safely home in London and raring to get back on stage.

I’ve decided that every once in a while, when I feel compelled to do so, I’m going to award a ‘Pharoah’ to a particularly excellent song, piece of music, or other audible offering.

The first Pharoah goes to World News by Local Natives.

I’ve been increasingly obsessed by fanatic about local natives for some time now. World news was always a favourite, but ever since the train I took out of London on saturday morning it’s been stuck in my head and I don’t ever want it to leave.

I highly recommend listening to it whilst travelling at speed, staring out of a window, looking at fields, and ideally also livestock.

Here is a highlight:

“I have probably listened to “Elephant” about 100 times and sent it to at least a dozen friends. The opening riff on the keys is gorgeous in a sort of dark, minor-key kind of way. Coming from a classical pianist who has problems writing keys for “indie” music, the role of the piano in this track (and, honestly, all the rest of them) is incredibly well done. The ascending-descending guitar pattern that follows is more than perfectly suited. Everything else moves swiftly from there, gaining momentum and changing direction; the vocals driving the melody where the keys and guitar leave off. It’s the kind of song that hooks you until the very end – and if you need evidence of this, see if you can’t wait until the last minute or so of the song for the final build up and break down.”

As I said, Grooveshark is much better than Spotify.

So yes, the march of the Cairans continues, with a new date added to our upcoming London shows.

The venue is downstairs at Zigfrid in Hoxton Square, and we’re on at about 9:30ish, followed by DJs, big hair and a generous smattering of east-side sceneliness.

Jesus died for this, and if you come along, he’ll be much less likely to will the wrath of God upon your house and family.
